In collaboration with our dear friend Alexa Fischer, and our sister project WISH AS ONE, we created our first “live art canvas” for the Fiesta Rosada event at the Punto Urban Art Museum in Salem.
This interactive artwork installation was a way for multiple participants to contribute to creating a collective artwork, via a personal device, by sending their wish to the digital canvas.
This event marked the five year anniversary of this unique museum, and celebrated the amazing impact that they’ve had in supporting artists and public art in their community. Punto Urban Art Museum is a small organization with big goals – their open air museum contains over 90 large-scale murals featuring 40 international and 25 New England-based artists. The mission at PUAM is driven by their fundamental belief that art can be a tool to help integrate neighborhoods and create more resilient communities. This aligns with our mission and vision, so they were the perfect partner to debut this new tool. We watched at the artwork built before our eyes in saturated beautiful layers of color like dripping spray can art as the wishes emerged.
To interact with the artwork, each individual scans a QR code located on each tabletop and on adjacent screens within the event space. The QR code directs you to an online platform where you can select wishes written by the organization, or write in your own custom wish.. This online google forum served as a way for participants to scroll through a list of preloaded wishes, or to even enter their own wish, to select and send to the projected canvas. The artwork became a visual display of all the wishes of those who attended this event.
By sending individual wishes to a single screen, groups of people are able to WISH together, in support of an important cause or collective blessing for the future. These wishes merge together graphically on this canvas and become a large-scale digital artwork. When a group of people make a wish together, it solidifies their vision for the future, propelling them forward to their common goal – the resulting artwork is a reminder of this catalyzing moment
